Pricing Guide / FAQ

This Pricing Guide is intended to help you get a rough idea of the cost of your tattoo. The price of a tattoo is largely determined by the time required to execute the work. The more detail or complexity involved in the design and layout, the higher the cost. The prices stated below are for tattoos of basic to average complexity.

FAQ

To get an email quote, what information do I need to provide?

Provide as much detail as possible: approximate size in inches or cm, location on the body, complexity (lines, letters, shading, black only, colour, etc.), and any other details you deem relevant. Do you have a specific idea or example in mind? Send us a pic with your request. In some cases, it might not be possible to arrive at a reasonable evaluation by email, in which case, we will recommend a consultation by phone or in person. â€‹

How small can a tattoo be?

An extremely simple design, like a cross, could be quite small, but keep in mind that skin doesn’t hold detail like paper. It’s a living, breathing, expanding and contracting medium. If you get a tattoo that is too small or too "tight", the detail could blend together over time. Small tattoos must be designed with enough simplicity and openness to last for many years without loss of quality.

Is it possible to get an infection or disease from a tattoo?

In a professional tattoo studio that follows strict sanitary protocols, the chances of getting an infection or disease from a tattoo are extremely low.

Make sure the tattoo artist uses only single-use needles and pigments, and properly disposes of them after the tattoo. The chair, machine and work area must also be sanitized after each session.

Taking proper care of the tattoo after leaving the shop is also an important part of preventing infections. Be sure to carefully follow the aftercare instructions given to you by your artist. For more information, see Aftercare.

EastSide Ink is committed to ensuring a safe and clean tattoo experience, providing you with the assurance that the only thing you'll ever get here... is

a tattoo.

Is it painful to get a tattoo?

Getting a tattoo can be painful. The level of pain will vary depending on the area of the body (some parts are more sensitive than others) and each individual's sensitivity or tolerance to pain. Numbing creams are available, which help attenuate the sensation of pain. An application of numbing cream with 5% lidocaine lasts about an hour, which means it could start wearing off during the session. Ask your tattoo artist about using numbing cream prior to getting your tattoo. In rare cases, numbing creams can cause an allergic reaction or skin irritation. If you have a medical condition, ask your doctor or pharmacist about using this type of product.

Can I get a tattoo if I’m sick or pregnant?

If you are sick, it is best to reschedule your appointment. Your tolerance to pain and stress may be lower, and your artist will likely appreciate not being exposed.

Although the risk is small, if you are pregnant, it is recommended that you wait to get a tattoo until after the baby is born. Little information is available about the safety or potential effects of using tattoo dyes during pregnancy.

Can I provide my own tattoo design or get one created for me?

Yes, you can provide your own tattoo design, or you can work with your artist to create a unique custom design just for you. Keep in mind that tattoo artists usually prefer not to copy/plagiarize other people’s tattoos. Thus, your artist will work with you to either adjust your design and make it your own, or create a completely unique tattoo using your design as inspiration.

Can my tattoo artist tattoo anything I want?

Some artists may be unwilling to tattoo certain areas of the body, underage individuals, or any design that they find inappropriate or uncomfortable, such as racist or hateful symbols or statements. A responsible artist might also advise against a potentially regrettable tattoo, like a girlfriend’s name, or any design that could eventually require a cover-up. "Are you sure that's what you want?!"
